Amata says U.S. House passage of Veterans' compensation cost-of-living adjustment act of 2006 will benefit Samoan veterans
June 27, 2006
Amata Aumua announced that the U.S. House of Representatives yesterday passed the Veterans' Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2006.
Amata explained, "This is good news for our increasing local military veteran population because it directs the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to increase the rates of veterans' disability compensation, additional compensation for dependents, the clothing allowance for certain disabled adult children, and dependency and indemnity compensation for surviving spouses and children.
Amata concluded by saying, "Effective as of December 1 of this year, the rates of disability compensation for veterans with service-connected disabilities and the rates of dependency and indemnity compensation for survivors of certain service-connected disabled veterans will increase. This is yet another way to serve our expanding local military veteran population and it is a good thing."
