PAGO PAGO, AMERICAN SAMOA. Aumua Amata thanked her cancer national network for its hard work which culminated in the U.S. House and Senate passing a separate earmark of $127.5 million for the Department of Defense Peer-Reviewed Breast Cancer Research Program. The earmark was included in the Defense Department Appropriations which passed several days ago.

" We've done it again! While this is of course less than the $150 million we wanted, under the circumstances, it is a huge victory."

Aumua urged her network colleagues to contact their Senators and Congressmen immediately to thank them for including the $127.5 million in funding for this critical program.

"As 2005 comes to an end, please know we are deeply appreciative of all the hard work done throughout the year by our grassroots advocates. In so many important ways, your dedication and efforts have helped to change the world of breast cancer.

Aumua Amata concluded by saying to her national cancer network as well as our own local community here in American Samoa, "Enjoy the holiday season. Have a Merry Christmas. Thank you for taking the time to stay informed and actively involved in forwarding our legislative agenda. Your advocacy is both powerful and influential, and as Congress begins the second session of the 109th Congress in January, we will continue to rely on you."
